Kristen Moves into a "House of Lies"

Kristen Bell(ex-"Elle") just got cast as a "razor-sharp Ivy League graduate" in Showtime's "House of Lies," which makes us wonder: Does she just keep getting more ruthless with each role? Yes, she was very sweet as Veronica Mars, but we like her way better when she's making Jason Segel cry while naked or screaming at Adam Scott through a Bluetooth headset.

So it sounds as if her part in this new dark comedy from Matthew Carnahan ("Dirt") fits her well. Described as "a subversive, scathing look at a self-loathing management consultant from a top-tier firm," "House of Lies" stars Don Cheadle as Marty, a "highly successful, cutthroat consultant who is never above using any means (or anyone) necessary to get his clients the information they want," and finds Bell in the role of Jeannie Van Der Hooven, an ambitious woman who works at Marty's firm.
Based on Martin Kihn's tell-all book "House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Then Tell You the Time," the series has also tapped Ben Schwartz ("Parks and Recreation") and Josh Lawson ("Romantically Challenged") as employees at Marty's firm, and Glynn Turman ("In Treatment") as Marty's father. We look forward to seeing Bell crush them all beneath her sensible career-lady shoes.

Kristen Bell update

Kristen Bell is a cutie who has appeared in a sexy photo shoot with Maxim in the past, but don’t expect the blonde to be baring it all on the silver screen anytime soon.

The actress will be appearing in the new movie Burlesque, starring Christina Aguilera and Cher.

Despite the risqué nature of the film, she has made it clear that there will be no nudity.

In other Elle news:

Kristen Bell says she is a huge fan of Glee for reasons other than the catchy ditties: She used to date one of its stars!

PHOTOS: Love lives of Glee stars

"I actually went to college with Matty Morrison," she told UsMagazine.com Wednesday at the L.A. premiere of You Again. "We actually dated very briefly, so I'll have to say maybe Matt Morrison is my favorite part of Glee for various reasons."

PHOTOS: Can you believe these stars dated?

Today, Bell, 30, is engaged to Dax Shepard.

Has she picked out a dress?

"Not yet!" she told Us.

http://www.usmagazine.com/healthylifestyle/news/kristen-bell-reveals-she-once-dated-glees-matt-morrison-2010239

Finally, Kristen, as talented as she is, should never have left Heroes, if her Box Office record is any indication:

“Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” hauled in about $7 million on Friday to top the box office and put itself in position to hold number one over theweekend. Look for the Michael Douglas sequel to earn roughly $21 million over the weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, “Wall Street 2″ will be Douglas’ highest opening weekend.

“Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” is off to a disappointing start after earning just $4.5 million on Friday. The family film should do better business on Saturday, which should help raise it’s weekend box office to $16.5 million. Warner Brothers may have been looking for a new franchise, but with a $100 million budget and this opening is unlikely to win over sequel talks.

“You Again” is headed for a modest $8 million opening in fifth place for the weekend. After “When In Rome” struggled at the box office, Kristin Bell’s cred as a starring actress is dwindling quickly.

“The Town” and “Easy A” are holding up well, only dropping about 30% from it’s opening Friday. “The Town” will battle “Guardians” for second place this weekend, aiming at $16 million, while “Easy A” is headed to a $12 million second weekend. Not bad for budding actress Emma Stone, nor for a film with an $8 million budget.

The projected top 5 for the weekend:

1. “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” – $21 million

2. “Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” – $16.5 million

3 “The Town” – $16 million, $49 million total

4. “Easy A” – $12 million, $34 million total

5. “You Again” – $ 9 million

FoxNews: Kristen Bell Roots for Co-Star in Male Nude Scene

Kristen Bell is blond, beautiful, brainy ... and happy to support her male co-star in his nude scene in the upcoming "Forgetting Sarah Marshall."

Bell, of "Heroes," "Gossip Girl" and "Veronica Mars," stars in the heavily marketed "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," which incidentally shows her co-star Jason Segal, ah, totally nude several times. And to support Segal’s daring role, our "Hero" donned a tell-all T-shirt.

"The costume designer made T-shirts that had the statue of David on the front, so we all had you-know-whats on the front of our shirts and had little sayings on the back like, 'Keep it up, Jas!' We tried to be as supportive as we could," Bell said. "We weren’t allowed to laugh."

But Bell certainly is pleased that she didn’t have to "show her boobs," and is all about the girl power.
"The great thing about this is that it's not sort of exploitative, [like] 'let's just show boobs.' There really isn't much nudity in the movie unless it's Jason and he wrote it, and I think that's really amazing," Bell said.

"Not that I'm promoting seeing more male nudity in the movies. But the truth be told, if you're not just looking on an equal plane, you don't see a lot of guys going out there and doing nudity," she added.

Hmm, but we are somewhat concerned that Segal has become a little too comfortable flashing the flesh.
"It's actually encouraged. Everyone likes me to be as naked as possible everywhere I go now," Segal said. "I don’t know how that would do for tourism, but we should find out and give it a short-lived experiment."
Sorry, Jas, we haven’t heard back from USA Tourism about this idea just yet.

#100!!!!

This is our 100th post here on http://heroesfirst.blogspot.com/. No biggie. But I hope you are able to drop in from time to time.
Now, while you are waiting:

Lots of news on your favorite ex-slice-of-jailbait: Hayden Panettiere has vowed she'll never fall victim to the trappings of fame like her peers Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears - because she prefers quiet nights in to wild Hollywood parties. The 'Heroes' beauty insists she leads a vastly different life to some of her contemporaries, because she is more mature than most stars her age.But the 18-year-old admits she is partial to a glass of champagne, even though she is three years younger than the US legal drinking age.
She tells the US edition of Cosmopolitan: "I think that people look at me as just another one of those girls who's going to screw up, like, 'She's going to get into drugs, and she's going to get into the parties.'"I have the occasional glass of champagne when I'm celebrating something, but generally, I don't drink. I'm a pizza and movie girl."
Appearenly, there is something else she seems to like to munch on: http://www.popcultureshock.com/hayden-panattiere-supergirl-gone-wild/41489/.
ps: that wasn't Kristin Bell...was it??
Also, ClaireBear has spoken for the first time about her split from boyfriend Stephen Colletti, revealing she just wanted some time alone.

Heyden ended her one-year relationship with the "Laguna Beach" star last September, insisting the pair had parted on amicable terms.

Panettiere, who is now dating her "Heroes" co-star Milo Ventimiglia, admits she desperately needed her own space.

She tells Seventeen magazine, "I just knew I wanted to breathe. I wanted to be single at the time. It just hit me like a ton of bricks -- this is the time I need to be with myself."

She also admits she's not an easy girlfriend: "It takes such a secure person to be with someone like me; it takes so much confidence, it takes so much trust."

Seens any of those Sarah Marashall posters in town? Well, Whilst Universal is touting Kristen's new movie "Leaving Sarah Marshall," Jon Heder has signed to star alongside Kristen in the Disney romantic comedy “When in Rome,” trade paper Variety reports.

David Diamond and David Weissman penned the script. Mark Steven Johnson will direct the feature for Disney, according to Variety.

Bell plays Beth, a successful New York curator at the Guggenehim who has no luck in love. She finds herself traveling to Rome, to attend her younger sister’s surprise wedding, and unwittingly creates the onset of adventure in her own life by picking up coins from a reputed “fountain of love.” Back home, she is confronted with an overabundance of suitors waiting for her, the trade paper reports.

Heder plays a street magician who uses his talents to try to get the girl, per Variety, while Shepard plays a self-absorbed suitor who falls under the spell and chases the girl.

Gary Foster, Andrew Panay and Rikki Bestall will produce, and shooting begins shortly in New York and Rome.
The Hollywood Reporter adds that Josh Duhamel has signed on to be the romantic lead, while Anjelica Huston will play Bell’s boss at the Guggenheim.

Heder made a name for himself with the portrayal of the geeky title character in 2004’s “Napoleon Dynamite.” The actor most recently starred in “Blades of Glory” and “Mama’s Boy.”

Shepard, of MTV show “Punk’d” fame, next stars in the Universal comedy “Baby Mama” and Disney’s “Old Dogs.” http://www.efluxmedia.com/news_Jon_Heder_Joins_Kristen_Bell_in_Rome_15512.html

HUMOUNGOUS ANGELA SPOILER:

One question that fans want to know will definitely be answered: Does Mama Peterlli have a power? The answer quite simply is, yes.

“You’ve gotta know that she’s got something going on,” actress Christine Rose told fans at the recent Eclipse event in the United Kingdom. She wouldn’t say exactly what that power would include. However, she did say that she wouldn’t want to have it as “power like that is dangerous and potentially harmful.”

Among hints at the discussion panel that she knows what Volume 3 will include (after letting slip that she has a power, Rose was incredibly tight-lipped), she joked that she would like Angela to have a boyfriend in the upcoming volume but that’s not likely to happen. But some of her random theories she has concocted about her character might.

While working on the series, Rose has put in a great deal of thought into the back story of Angela Petrelli and believes that her relationship with Linderman (Malcolm McDowel) and Kaito Nakamua (George Takei) goes a lot farther than anyone else knows.

“I just decided Nathan was my son with him [McDowell], and Milo from Arthur [Petrelli]. We all met at Woodstock, done acid and became heroes(!!!!). Hiro is my child with Kaito cause I think there is something there.”

Only four scenes for “Heroes” volume three have been filmed, including HRG (Jack Coleman), Elle (Kristen Bell) and Rose herself discussing a group of new mysterious villains that are “worse than 12 Sylars.” The scenes were originally supposed to be part of the twelfth episode of the second season but were forced back as a result of the writers strike.

BOB.......THE BUTLER????

George Miller may still be upset that Australia isn't offering the tax rebate to Justice League: Mortal, but that doesn't seem to be keeping the movie from proceeding with casting news. In an article that retreads Miller's complaints about the Australian government, ContactMusic.com dropped the tantalizing news that Heroes star Stephen Tobolowsky is reportedly in negotiations to play Batman's butler Alfred Pennyworth.Tobolowsky plays the role of Bob Bishop on Heroes. The possible head of The Company and the adopted father of Kristen Bell's Elle, Bob served as a primary antagonist for the show's second season. It should be interesting to see him step into a role made famous by Michael Gough and Michael Caine in the Batman films.

KBell Update

Kristen Bell, who plays the slightly villainous Elle on Heroes, has reportedly still not been signed for the third season of the hit drama. Over on E! Online they say that any hold-up is for business reasons, and not creative ones:
I have it on good authority that Elle is very much a part of the writers' grand plan for season three. (Fear not: Kring loves her just as much as we do!) So, if there is a holdup, I assure you it is more on the business (rather than creative) side of things, and there is still time to get this worked out before they go back into production. The site also reports that Claire Bennet, played by Hayden Panettiere may not appear much in the first two episodes of the season, as the actress will be finishing up filming on I Love You Beth Cooper.Heroes is an epic drama that chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities. The show airs Monday nights on NBC.

Where's Elle???

Heroes to start shooting in June ... without Kristen Bell?

Posted Feb 27th 2008 3:04PM by Bob SassoneFiled under: Programming, Heroes
Cool news for fans of NBC's Heroes: it looks like the show is going to start filming a lot earlier than it usually does.
Shows usually start filming in July/August for the fall season, but according to Heroes star James Kyson Lee (Ando), the writers strike means that the show will start filming in June, and maybe as early as May. He says that NBC plans to really push the show this year, using the Olympics to hype the show.
That's the good news. The (possible) bad news is that TV Guide's Michael Ausiello is reporting that Kristen Bell isn't signed for the new season yet.

He does believe that she will eventually be signed though, because fans like her so much.
I'm curious though: Veronica Mars memories aside, do you Heroes fans like her character on the show? Is she necessary to the plot? I like her story arc. I see her either coming over to the side of the good guys (if she signs a long-term contract) or completely going crazy because of the way her father has been treating her and trying to destroy everyone and eventually dying in a really dramatic way.

Bell turned down the role of Charlotte on Lost to take the Heroes gig.

Newswire 1.8.08

Hayden Panettiere tells Lucky magazine’s February issue that she lives for those moments off-set of “Heroes” when she can wear something other than a cheerleading outfit! “On the show, I spend most of my time in a cheerleading uniform,” the 18-year-old actress says, “so in real life I like to have a lot more fun with my clothes.” Panettiere plays Claire, the literally invincible cheerleader on NBC’s hit drama series. Describing her style as “very frenetic,” the actress admits her penchant for panoply “changes as quickly as my mood.” But, she confesses, her obsession “about really stunning heels” is perfectly consistent. “I get excited even taking the elevator up to the shoe floor at Bergdorf’s.” Lucky hits newsstands Thursday.

Malcolm McDowell ("Linderman") on Lindsay Anderson

BY DANA OLAND - doland@idahostatesman.com
Edition Date: 01/04/08
Malcolm McDowell met Lindsay Anderson at a nerve-wracking audition in 1967. At the time, McDowell had no idea that interaction would change his life.

Anderson cast McDowell as Mick Travis, the student revolutionary in "If" a film that propelled McDowell to stardom in England and led to McDowell's most famous role, as Alex de Large in Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange."

The two clicked on film and became lifelong friends. McDowell created a one-man show as an endearing tribute in 2004, on the 10th anniversary of Anderson's death. Now it's a film, directed and produced by Caldwell-based filmmaker Mike Kaplan, who, along with McDowell, will present the film, "Never Apologize," at a one-time showing Jan. 12 at the Egyptian Theatre. The showing is for an Idaho International Film Festival event.

The film is funny, poignant and fascinating as McDowell delves into Anderson's complex psyche and shares bits of theatrical and film lore and history. He recreates this evocative time in British film through his memories, Anderson's diaries, books and letters. He deftly recreates all the larger-than-life characters who intersected Anderson's story, including John Gielgud, Lillian Gish, John Ford, Bette Davis, Alan Bates and Rachel Roberts. Some may have fallen out of popular memory, but this film offers a chance to remember and explore some of the best films of that era.

As a filmmaker, Anderson helped shape our contemporary view of film as art.
Somewhat of a radical character, Anderson made movies that pushed at the social fabric of the 1960s. His films included the raw, gritty, Oscar-nominated "This Sporting Life" (1963), his groundbreaking trilogy "If," "O Lucky Man" and "Britannia Hospital" and the lyrical ode "The Whales of August."

The title for the piece comes from a mantra of Anderson: "I never apologize," even though he was easily one of the most difficult and demanding personalities around.

Rumors have been swirling for awhile now, but the paparazzi caught Heroes stars Hayden Panettiere and Milo Ventimiglia out together in LA this weekend. (Click here to see the photo.)
Hayden only recently turned 18, and Milo is 30. I bet someone was counting the days until she turned 18! Before hooking up with Milo (and before turning 18), Hayden dated Laguna Beach star Stephen Colletti.

LOS ANGELES — It seems the romance between Kate Hudson and comedian Dax Shepard is definitely off and things between the comic and "Heroes" star Kristen Bell are definitely on.
The comely new couple was caught getting cozy together at Bahamas hotspot Aura Nightclub at Atlantis last Thursday, where they danced and drank into the wee hours.
"At first they seemed a little awkward together and with the attention," our spy said. "But eventually they relaxed; I guess it is never easy 'coming out' with a new relationship."
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,320572,00.html

It's brilliant the way the U.S. Postal Service sells all kinds of collectors stamps they know won't be used as postage, thus padding the profit margin. I mean, no Elvis fan could allow the King to be canceled, could they?

In the same vein, "Heroes" fans could look forward to licking the backside of Peter Petrelli postage and slapping Hiro Nakamura onto their utility bills - not that they would.
Head on over to the NBC Universal Store and check out all five "Heroes"-themed stamps available in sheets of 20. Besides Peter and Hiro, sheets featuring Claire, Nathan and the Helix symbol are also available. Single sheets of one of the four characters sell for $21.95, while a set of all five sheets sells for $99.95, a savings of $9.80.

Clearly, these are must-haves for only the most die-hard "Heroes" fans. Sure, they're frame-worthy, but I don't have an extra Benjamin for stamps I can't use to send mail ...
You could use them, however, to send your strongly worded letters urging the writers and studios to get back to the bargaining table so we have a chance of seeing actual "Heroes" episodes before fall. (DEFINATLY!!!)

Heroes @ Ease

Well, with some time on thier hands, let's catch up with some of our Heroic folk to see what the're up to.

http://www.tmz.com/ reports that Ali Larter's puppies came out to play (or was it Jessica...ya never know)..

http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid353549946/bctid1312369922

...and when she's not showing off, she's showing her support to the writers on the picket line:

http://www.celebrity-gossip.net/celebrities/hollywood/ali-larter-pitches-in-at-the-picket-lines-202941/

(and it seems the 1000 Cranes for Heroes effort is getting some play too. In fact not only has it wound up in the Ali Larter pic, but itwas mentioned in, of all things, the Wall Street Journal!

They help in symbolic ways. "Heroes" fans are sending origami birds to the
Writers Guild of America because a character on the show once folded a thousand
cranes for a woman he had fallen in love with.
http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB119699082174316559-p_75BiBgTo3A6vtuE4KAlqd_99E_20080106.html?mod=tff_main_tff_top

Here's some stuff that Hayden talked about in her upcoming cover article in Seventeen:

Her style:
“My style has evolved and become more sophisticated. It’s
grown with my personality.”
Her fashion obsession:
“Shoes are definitely
my guilty pleasure. I have these Givenchy shoes that are a deep plum patent leather. They
are stunning. And I love my Louis Vuittons.”
Her cheaper thrill:
“Hale bob, Shoe-wise, they’re great, and they’re not an arm and a leg. And you know
what else? Forever 21. You can find great things there–they’re all over the place. I bought a top there for $4.”
http://www.2snaps.tv/9813269

And ex-nay on the rumours that Hayden is doing the HeroBop with co-star Milo Ventimiglia. Seems she has caught the eye of Ryan("Lars and the Real Girl") Gosling (who as also been linked to Rachael McAdams and Michelle Williams). So there.
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/showbiz/a81505/panettiere-swaps-numbers-with-gosling.html

And apperently, I am not the only one feeling frustration with this stupid strike. According to BuddyTV, Actress Kristen Bell has pledged her full support for the writers, but the Heroes star admits she is also concerned about the rest of the show's work force who have found themselves off the payroll because of the WGA strike.

“I one-hundred percent support the writers and support the directors and
obviously support SAG, but what no one's really acknowledging is that none of
the crew can work,” Bell told IGN from the picket lines outside Universal
Studios on Tuesday. “I'm in support, but my heart really goes out to the
crew members who haven't had work for two months before Christmas… So just
even for that alone I hope that we can all come to a settlement soon where
everybody gets their just desserts, you know?”
http://www.buddytv.com/articles/heroes/heroes-star-supports-writers-b-14756.aspx

Just desserts. Interesting way to put it, Elle...
